1)
The next IFFR UK section event is our informal* Fly in to
Wolverhampton
Halfpenny Green (EGBO) on Sunday 18th February 2007.
*Informal means no
hotels to book and no cancellation charges if the
weather prevents you
attending – but if you are thinking of coming,
please let David Morgan know
now, and phone his mobile on the morning
if you are then not
coming.
This event, weather permitting will take place at former R.A.F.
World
War II airfield which is located in beautiful Staffordshire
countryside. The airfield has three good tarmac runways and an AFIS
service. There is a café in the tower building (still in use after
65
years) where we will meet for lunch. Road access is good for
those who
prefer or are forced to drive (for ground based GPS users
the airfield
postcode is DY7 5DY). The plan is to meet up at about 12
noon. Currently,
the landing fee for singles is £10 with reductions
when fuel is uplifted.
Visits to Halfpenny Green Vineyard, which is
very close to the airfield, can
be arranged. Please remember that
the day light hours are short in February!
Contact: David Morgan, e-
mail davidmorgan@
883451 (home), mobile 07786 392393. If you
intend to come please
contact David so that he has some idea of
numbers.
Note the callsign has reverted to the historic `Halfpenny Green
Information'
a) The airfield is PPR. There is a freephone
number for 'booking in'
which is 0808 100 3362. Although David will give ATC
details of
those who have notified him of their attendance it is important
that
all pilots should telephone the airfield for PPR before
departure;
b) David has been informed by ATC that, whilst they will do
their
best to provide us with a designated parking area, they may not be
able to do this on the day for operational reasons. Nevertheless, he
suggests that pilots state that they are 'Flying Rotarians' on first
contact with Halfpenny Green.
2) A request from RIBI
At 4pm on
Saturday 14 April 2007 during the RIBI Conference in
Bournmouth, Rotarians
and their families will endeavour to fly a
thousand kites at the same time
in order to achieve a world record.
The bright blue and yellow kites with
the Rotary logo will make a
stunning sight and we have been asked whether an
IFFR member would be
prepared to fly past and take photographs. Please
contact Rodney
Spokes for further details at iffr@spokes.
3) Membership

1.5 potential members per Club. Thanks to willing members, we

Fellowship.

Bank Holiday
Sunday 27 May 2007. This year the annual Aero Picnic
organised by the Rotary
Club of Olsztyn, Poland will celebrate the
10th anniversary of the RI
District 2230. There is a special
invitation for IFFR members to attend. See
www.iffr.org for further
details. Our Past World IFFR President, Angus Clark
is considering
attending. As his usual "co-pilot" and IFFR member, Alisma,
will
not be free that weekend he would have two seats available on a cost
share basis (he says three passengers would be a bit tight in the
Robin). His thought is to leave Netherthorpe Friday afternoon,
routing
down to Norfolk to cross directly to Holland. He would then
overnight at the
Airport Hotel at Groningen before going on to Poland
on Saturday. Return
would be on Monday which is the Bank Holiday. All
times are of course
weather dependant. Anyone interested in joining
Angus should contact him on
01433 631585.
